I have bilateral ovarian endo. Is surgery always necessary, or can it be managed with medication?
Endometriosis of both ovaries is not always surgical in nature. The best option will depend on certain aspects, including the size of the cysts, intensity of complaints, age, and pregnancy attempts. Pills like hormonal medications and analgesics might be beneficial to treat symptoms and to prevent further development of endometriosis; however, they cannot get rid of already formed endometriomas. The surgery could be offered to women having big cysts, experiencing pain, infertility, or any other problems detected by imaging examination.
I have bilateral endo too and this was one of my biggest worries. I don't think surgery is always the answer. It really depends on how bad the pain is, how big the cysts are and whether they're affecting fertility. I was curious about all the options before deciding too.
No, surgery is not always necessary for bilateral ovarian endometriosis (endometriomas on both ovaries).Whether you need surgery depends on your symptoms, cyst size, fertility goals and how the cysts behave over time.
