Semen is a mixture of fluid, which includes water and sperm. Sperm is produced by men from the penis following ejaculation. Swallowing the semen is a safe practice. Substances like spermatozoa are found in semen. This substance is mainly known as sperm.
Around 1% to 5% of the semen consists of sperms, which help create humans’ offsprings. They are reproductive cells, basically like a tadpole. 80% of the semen consists of fluid, i.e., water.
Is it ok to Ingest?
The components that semen consists of are 5% sperms and the rest water. For most parts, it is ok to ingest semen. It can be consumed just like food.
Some people might be allergic to consuming semen. This is known as HSP or Human Seminal Plasma Hypersensitivity. You must be aware of this sensitivity if you find yourself allergic.
Is it rich in protein?
You need to consume a large amount of semen to experience any benefits that it has to offer. The amount of ejaculation is a significant factor that keeps on varying. Factors such as the health and age of a person depend a lot on ejaculation. The amount of protein in the semen is a one-twentieth portion of the entire fluid.
The semen consists of various components other than protein, sperm, and water. Such as:
- Lactic acid
- Zinc
- Sodium
- Fructose
- Glucose
- Calcium
- Citrate
- Potassium
- Chloride
- Magnesium
- Urea

Are calories found or not?
Sperm is not high in calories. The amount of calories found in the semen is about 5 to 7 calories produced at each ejaculation time.
What is the taste of sperm?
The taste of the semen varies from person to person. Some person finds the semen sweet while others find it salty and bitter. Several foods affect the taste of the semen. Such as:
- Nutmeg
- Oranges
- Wheatgrass
- Papaya
- Cinnamon
- Celery
- Pineapple
- Parsley
The bitterness in the semen is due to consuming other foods. Such as:
- Cabbage
- Garlic
- Onions
- Coffee
- Alcohol
- Asparagus
- Leafy greens
- Cigarettes
- Dairy products and meat
- Alcohol
What is its smell be like?
The semen’s smell also varies as the taste varies depending on many factors such as hygiene, diet, and health. Sometimes semen even smells like household cleaners and bleach. This is because of the pH level of the sperm. Semen is more neutral or sometimes a bit of alkaline. If the smell of the semen is fishy or musky, it is because of some outside factors.
Sperms are a mood booster
Semen has many antidepressant properties, according to some research. These properties include:
- Oxytocin
- Endorphins
- Prolactin
- Serotonin
- Estrone
- Serotonin
- A hormone that releases thyrotropin

Sperms are a stress relief
Semen, as mentioned above, shows the evidence of having antidepressant properties; many also believe that it has a property of stress-relieving. This assumption is not wrong because it consists of mood-boosting properties, such as progesterone and oxytocin hormones present in the semen. Antioxidants and vitamin C helps to reduce the impairment of sperm by fighting oxidative stress in the semen.
Health Benefits
The properties of the semen help in the case of pregnancy health too. The chances of any complications related to pregnancy are significantly less in the case of women who are exposed to sperm. Exposure to sperms can be both during and before pregnancy. More studies are going on to figure out whether it has any other health benefits or not.
The bottom line
This is ultimately your decision whether you will eat sperms or not. You must know the benefits of it before you consume it. Make sure you are not allergic to it or seek immediate help from experts.
